Intentness

Intentness is focus and dedication. In "The Iliad" Priam is intent on his mission.  Achilles, too, shows a certain intentness. They focused their energies like we focused on the lit candle.

Create a five line poem about Intentness. Use some of the key vocabulary words from the Touchstone.  You may write more than five lines.  The poem can be blank verse. It does not have to rhyme, but it may. Hopefully you will craft some lines to increase our "paideia."

  1. Intentness is something very few people can handle,
That's a key reason half the class fell asleep watching the candle,
Priam was very concentrated and determined to retrieve his son,
And so he did and left to prepare for the fight against Achilles even though, he was done.

  2. 10th year of the war, where succession required determination,
Resulting in the death of a Trojan and King Priam's admiration,
Towards a warrior who had shed blood for his friend,
and ended up sparing the life of his victim's father in the end.
Out of 50 children, Priam came back for one,
An honorable, courageous, strong Trojan son.

  3. Achilles knows he's the warrior and Priam the king,
But Priam kisses Achilles' hand which must sting,
Achilles treated Hector's body like a dirty sack,
Achilles' response was "I give him back because I give him back."
Priam and Achilles respected one another and slept together,
But now it's back to war, that day there was just nice weather.

  4. Individuals want or need to accomplish something they dream about
    Nectar that nurtures paideia
The dedication Priam had to retrieve his sons body
Enemy to those who believe work is not needed to achieve at life
Necessity if one wants to become something more
The state of mind, in which Achilles dragged Hectors body like a lifeless rag doll

  5. Oh Priam, Priam
Your son is being dragged across the dust
    Oh Priam, Priam
You must go to Achilles to retrieve his body, yes you must
    Oh Priam, Priam
Achilles almost struck you down as you were in his tent
    Oh Priam, Priam

  6. I, Priam will put all of my intentness
To stop Achilles from creating more resentment
The Trojans cry with a lot sentiment
the loss of our greatest warrior, whom soul deserves contentment
My intention is to honorably bury my son
    like everyone desires..
    for a loved one

Priam and Achilles respect each other very much.
Mutual respect was very much shown.

  9. Homer said: “…the greatest Greek warrior…killed the most courageous and strongest Trojan…” The father of the slain Trojan, King Priam, kissed the killer of his son’s hands, as he was intent on retrieving his son’s lifeless body. The Greek dragged Hector’s body in the dust. As a result, Hector’s garments became shoddy. Achilles, the Greek, reluctantly complied with Priam’s request to have back his son’s body and Priam complied with Achilles’ request for them to share a meal...

Hector’s demise resulted in a deal.

  10. Achilles and Hector equally respected
Were destined to fight for their protected
    Achilles won and Defeated Hector
Everyone knew he was the rightful victor
    He kept Hector's body
to embarrass in front of troy
However, Priam came looking for his boy
He told Achilles that he has won
all he wanted was his son.
he tried to remind Achilles of his own Father
he was lucky Achilles didn't find him a bother.
Priam plead to Achilles and told him his sorrows
Achilles said he will get his son Tomorrow.
From this day on there was a mutual respect for one another.
They were enemies at war but for now Brothers.

Priam, a leader to his people
Got on his knees to kiss Achilles' hand
The same hands that had proven to be lethal
The same hands which drove Hector into the sand
Achilles, a man of such great pride
Broke down in tears at the sight of the king
A king who bore it all with nothing to hide
And so the night ended with the two in sync

    Intentness poem

Priam was the father of Hector
Step up to his Foe Achilies
    Asked for his son body
    That’s all He wanted
    Achilies at first disliked him
    Treating to kill him
    But then he realized
    The old man was brave
    They respected one another
    But Tension was still there….

  13. Priam father of Hector
    Hector be him slain
Asked Achilles the return of the body
On hand and knee he'd say
Achilles threatened to slay him too
    place him with his son
but out of pity he returned the body
for he saw a father who was done.
